Tool Design Engineer

About the role

Aptiv is seeking a Tool Design Engineer to develop and optimize tooling for high‑performance automotive, aerospace, and medical components. You will work closely with product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost‑effective, and meet stringent quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze CAD data, 2D drawings and 3D models to assess moldability and manufacturability.
• Identify geometric risks (wall thickness, draft, undercuts, tolerances) and recommend design improvements.
• Participate in design reviews, gate‑location analysis, runner balance, cooling efficiency, venting, and Mold Flow simulations.
• Create tooling concepts, prepare detailed cost estimates, and support RFQ and quote preparation.
• Launch projects after TRA approval, coordinate with tool builders, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.
• Release drawings and models after TMA approval, maintain CAD revision control, and manage engineering changes.
• Document lessons learned, collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in injection mold design, preferably in automotive, aerospace or medical sectors.
• U.S. visa eligibility (if applicable).
• Strong understanding of tooling principles, DFM, GD&T, and plastic material behavior.
• Advanced written and spoken English.

Required skills

• CAD proficiency – NX preferred.
• Injection mold design and Mold Flow analysis.
• Knowledge of mold components (gates, runners, cooling, ejection).
• Steel selection, heat‑treatment, and surface‑finish expertise.
• Cost estimation, RFQ support, and tool‑tryout troubleshooting.
