Tooling Estimator Engineer

About the role

The Tooling Estimator Engineer will join Aptiv’s Saltillo Technical Center as a Molding Process Engineer. Reporting to the Molding Lead Engineer, you will apply scientific molding expertise to support product development, equipment quoting, and process certification for connection‑systems product lines.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in early product development with engineers and estimators, providing technical input on molding processes.
• Quote peripheral equipment, maintain updated equipment lists, and support tool build issue resolution with suppliers.
• Audit tool‑supplier processes before tool moves and act as Bill of Process owner for part certification.
• Own Bill of Equipment for IMM and peripheral equipment, and support new equipment installation and start‑up.
• Evaluate new projects, suppliers, and technologies, collaborating with purchasing and plant operations.
• Provide plant operation support, troubleshoot molding issues, and train new engineers or technicians.
• Audit molding performance across North America facilities and participate in design reviews, DFM, and global improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Scientific Molding training or certification.
• Ability to read and interpret component and tooling drawings and 3‑D models.
• Willingness to travel within Mexico or the United States as needed.
• Strong analytical and quantitative problem‑solving skills.
• Professional proficiency in English for technical communication.

Required skills

• MoldFlow interpretation.
• Injection molding machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with NX CAD software and GD&T principles.
