VAVE Engineer - Electric Motors

About the role

Nidec is looking for a VAVE Engineer in Monterrey, Mexico, responsible for the sustaining engineering of electric motor products. The role covers design optimization, cost reduction and production support.

Key responsibilities

• Motor design and development: mechanical structure design and 3D modelling with CAD, tolerance analysis, and selection of key components (magnets, silicon steel, bearings, etc.) with suppliers
• Produce technical documentation: 2D/3D drawings, BOMs, DFMEA and test requisition forms, and improve existing product structures
• VAVE: analyse motor BOM costs, propose design improvements such as material substitution and lightweighting, and work with procurement on new suppliers and localised materials
• Mass production support: back up manufacturing, quality and procurement, analyse failures and propose improvements, and manage ECNs/ECRs
• Establish Common Building Blocks (CBB) for components, take part in supplier technical reviews and assess tier-2 suppliers

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in electrical, motor/appliance, mechanical, automation or mechatronics engineering
• 5+ years in the motor industry with knowledge of motor structure design and material selection
• Understanding of basic motor manufacturing processes (winding, impregnation, welding, stamping, machining, balancing, magnet assembly, sealing)
• Basic electromagnetic design ability to interpret calculations from electromagnetic engineers
• Fluent spoken and written English, strong teamwork and project management awareness (PMP preferred)
• Prior experience with low-voltage AC motors or commercial vehicle motors preferred
