Warranty Engineer - Liaison

About the role

The Warranty Engineer – Liaison acts as the critical technical bridge between Magna Powertrain’s engineering team and OEM customers. The role manages the full warranty lifecycle for transmission and transfer case systems, from field failure analysis to root‑cause resolution, protecting product integrity and reducing warranty costs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed teardown of returned transmission and transfer case units to identify mechanical, hydraulic or electrical failure modes.
• Lead cross‑functional teams through the 8D problem‑solving process using RedX, Ishikawa diagram and 5 Whys to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor warranty data trends (IPTV/CPV) to detect emerging issues before they become high‑visibility campaigns.
• Communicate findings and corrective actions to OEM partners, ensuring confidence and compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with professional license.
• Minimum 3 years of automotive engineering experience, preferably in powertrain or transmission manufacturing.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with root‑cause analysis methodologies.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of gear sets, torque converters and TCM logic.
• Proficiency with CAN bus communication and diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer and INCA.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality standards.
• Ability to conduct 8D, RedX, Ishikawa and 5 Whys analyses.
