Data Engineer (Azure) – Remote

About the role

Bluelight is seeking an Azure‑focused Data Engineer to join a fast‑growing data engineering team. You will design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines that deliver reliable analytical data to data scientists and analysts across the organization. This remote position is ideal for a software development professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ETL processes using Python (PySpark) within Azure Synapse Analytics notebooks and pipelines.
• Design and build data warehousing structures (star schemas, facts, dimensions) in a Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) SQL pool.
• Extract data from REST APIs, SQL tables, and CSV files.
• Optimize Synapse notebooks and pipelines for scalability and performance.
• Contribute to data‑fabric concepts such as data lakes, lakehouses, delta lakes, and data cataloging.
• Collaborate with data architects to create data models and schemas aligned with business needs.
• Implement data quality checks and validation processes.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to meet service‑level agreements.
• Monitor ETL jobs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure pipeline reliability.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of data flows and processes.
