Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

SURLIV | Engineering Services is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for an initial three‑month contract, with strong potential for extension through year‑end. The role supports US‑based project teams, delivering advanced CAD models and engineering analysis to drive product development from concept to factory readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop fully parametric 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings in strict compliance with internal SOPs and data‑management standards.
• Maintain clean file structures in collaborative CAD environments, using check‑in/check‑out, PLM or shared servers to avoid conflicts.
• Support the full design cycle: concept, requirements translation, interface design, prototyping, validation testing and factory hand‑over.
• Provide regular project updates, communicate milestones, design reviews and technical bottlenecks to local management and US stakeholders.
• Perform advanced GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, clearance and clash analysis for complex moving mechanisms.
• Identify and propose design optimisations for performance, manufacturability (DFM) and cost reduction.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.

Required profile

• 8+ years of mechanical design and applications engineering experience, preferably in advanced manufacturing, industrial systems or heavy machinery.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaborate across geographically dispersed teams.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (configuration management, large‑assembly optimisation, sheet‑metal and weldments workbenches).
• Experience with additional CAD platforms such as CATIA, Onshape or NX.
• Familiarity with PLM or other file‑management workflows.
• Deep knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis and clearance verification.
• Understanding of commercial metallic material standards, sheet‑metal gauges, weldments and structural frames.
• Experience with diverse manufacturing processes including precision metal fabrication, welding and 3D printing/rapid prototyping.
