Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

QST Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Mexicali plant, developing automotive sensor and actuator products for global customers. The role involves collaborating with local and international engineering teams to create designs that meet customer specifications, reduce cost and ensure manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

• Act as primary contact with customers to develop customized product designs, focusing on PLM‑ERP integration and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to lower cost.
• Coordinate with suppliers to evaluate material changes and improve the supply chain.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams—including sourcing, production, quality and manufacturing—to build prototypes and establish baseline manufacturing processes.
• Manage product validations and engineering change projects, ensuring timely completion and cost reduction.
• Provide expert technical support to internal and external stakeholders for complex product issues.
• Collaborate with the NPI team to define optimal manufacturing processes based on site resources.
• Supervise Test Engineers, oversee equipment maintenance, conduct validation tests and perform teardown analyses.
• Assess new business opportunities, perform risk assessments for design changes and evaluate feasibility of production at the Mexicali site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in mechanical product design and validation for automotive or sensor applications.
• Strong communication skills to interact with customers, suppliers and cross‑functional teams.
