Banking Operations Lawyer

About the role

The Deputy Counsel will provide day‑to‑day legal support for Banamex’s Commercial and Private Banking operations across Mexico. You will advise internal teams on regulatory compliance, draft and review contracts, and coordinate with external counsel to resolve legal issues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide telephone and email legal advice to banking units on daily operational matters.
• Analyze legal documents such as death certificates, powers of attorney, check collections, succession matters, and security agreements.
• Draft and review credit opening contracts with securities and ensure proper documentation.
• Supervise external counsel, manage escalated queries, and coordinate notarized notifications to clients.
• Assess regulatory compliance of business decisions and advise on risk mitigation.
• Produce internal and external documents containing strategic recommendations for senior attorneys.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a bank or law firm.
• Juris Doctorate preferred; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Mexican banking, civil, commercial, and notarial law.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
• Proven analytical, organizational, and risk‑assessment abilities.
