HVAC Test Engineer - Screw and Scroll Chillers

About the role

Johnson Controls is looking for an HVAC Test Engineer in Torreón to support small-tonnage screw and scroll chillers. This hands-on position manages each test from design and planning through execution, data analysis and presentation to external customers, and may also support standard and non-standard contract witness testing.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with customers and factory operation partners to solve production issues during factory witness tests.
• Plan and execute tests of screw and scroll chillers, communicating with the sales engineer on test plans and creating detailed test requests.
• Use an in-house rating program to determine chiller performance and calculate the effects of fouling.
• Set up data acquisition software, diagnose and troubleshoot chillers and data acquisition systems, and report results to customers and product engineering.
• Present lab setup, instrumentation calibration methods and records, and explain AHRI and Eurovent testing procedures and tolerances.
• Help revise standard procedures and test standards, and recommend improvements to testing services.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in IMA, IME or a related field.
• Minimum of four years of direct experience in small-tonnage screw and scroll chiller equipment development testing, with a good understanding of HVAC/R systems, concepts and diagnostics.
• Background in engineering and testing, including test instrumentation, data acquisition, troubleshooting, technical reporting and communication.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Required skills

• Test instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Plus: electronics/software (starters, VFDs, control systems), sound/vibration testing (MAARS, Bently Nevada, Bruel & Kjaer), and data acquisition tools (LabVIEW, National Instruments).
