Principal Applications Engineer - Chiller Products

About the role

The Principal Applications Engineer supports the sale of Chiller products through the JCI HVAC System Branches and JCI sales and marketing personnel in export markets. The role has a strong impact on the success of the Chiller Solutions business and works closely with the Order Management and Contract Engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily guidance to field sales personnel on the application and installation of Chiller Solutions equipment in HVAC systems, including systems advice, creative solutions to unique customer needs and use of competitor knowledge.
• Develop tools and documentation to support field sales and automate answers to common inquiries.
• Use in-house engineering systems to respond quickly to product detail inquiries and assist sales personnel in resolving equipment, job or code challenges.
• Follow up with sales personnel, design engineers and product management teams so customer requirements are understood and responses are delivered efficiently.
• Obtain supplier quotations to communicate cost and lead time for special product requests.
• Take part in product team meetings to plan and implement business development opportunities.
• Create and deliver parts of sales training programs, including on-site classes and visits to field offices.
• Guide and support other Application Engineers, Product Marketing staff, Sales Engineers and Sales Agents.

Required profile

• A BS degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• At least 7 years of experience, preferably in the HVAC industry or a related chiller technology field.
• Up to 20% travel for factory visits, customer site visits and field training visits.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Business Ethics.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of refrigeration system principles, panel design, circuit design and associated equipment.
• High-level knowledge of JCI and competitor products, market conditions, industry regulations and technologies.
