Procurement Buyer – Maritime Vessel Parts

About the role

The Buyer will manage the end‑to‑end procurement of vessel parts, supplies, equipment and industrial services for tugboat and barge operations. This role ensures compliance with procurement procedures, budgets and operational requirements while supporting continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily purchase requisitions from vessel operations, engineering and other departments.
• Convert approved requisitions into Purchase Orders, send to suppliers and track acknowledgements.
• Solicit, evaluate and select supplier quotations based on price, quality, delivery, payment terms and performance.
• Manage the full Purchase Order lifecycle, from creation through invoicing, payment and close‑out.
• Coordinate with Finance for timely invoice processing and supplier payments.
• Monitor order status, expedite deliveries and resolve supply‑chain issues.
• Maintain communication with vessel personnel, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Support supplier sourcing, RFIs/RFQs/RFPs, vendor evaluations and contract implementation.
• Participate in supplier performance reviews and maintain Approved Vendor Lists.
• Contribute to spend analysis, procurement planning and process‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 3‑5 years of hands‑on procurement or purchasing experience; maritime experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of Procure‑to‑Pay (P2P) processes.
• Excellent organizational, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Great Plains ERP (or similar ERP system) for managing procurement transactions.
