Security Engineer (Threat Detection & Response)

About the role

Mastercard’s Security Threat & Response Management (STRM) program is looking for a Security Engineer II to join the Defend product team. You will help shape and execute the prevention‑focused security control strategy across a wide range of security tools and platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the technical roadmap for defensive security controls, covering tools such as EDR, DLP, Email Security, SIEM, SOAR, XDR, NGFW, UEBA, NDR, and more.
• Translate security strategy, risk policies, and threat models into concrete engineering initiatives and backlog items.
• Act as technical lead for the Defend feature team, prioritising work, sharing expertise, and ensuring consistent engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, endpoint, identity, cloud, and SecOps teams to deploy and optimise security controls.
• Configure, integrate and fine‑tune security tooling (e.g., EDR/XDR, NGFW, IDS, DLP, Application Control) to meet defined objectives.
• Monitor control effectiveness, continuously tune policies and detections, and lead security capability assessments.

Required profile

• Strong analytical abilities and a proactive problem‑solving mindset.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills for managing complex discussions.
• Ability to work effectively with internal STRM teams and other corporate security groups.

Required skills

• Experience with EDR/XDR platforms.
• Knowledge of Next‑Generation Firewalls (NGFW) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
• Proficiency in Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions.
• Familiarity with Application Control, SIEM, SOAR, UEBA, and NDR technologies.
