Senior ADU Architect (Remote)

About the role

BetterPros is seeking a senior architect with deep expertise in Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and California permitting to lead the architectural design phase for residential projects. This fully remote, full‑time position offers ownership from early concept through permit approval for a U.S.-based California firm.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design of ADUs, single‑family homes, additions and remodels from schematic design (SD) through construction documents (CD).
• Manage projects from feasibility to permit submission and jurisdictional approval.
• Coordinate structural, civil, MEP, Title 24, survey and other consultants.
• Prepare and oversee complete drawing sets for planning, pricing and construction.
• Track design decisions, consultant inputs and permit‑related actions.
• Review plan‑check comments, manage revisions and resubmissions.
• Communicate project status, risks and next steps to internal teams and clients.
• Maintain high standards for design management, documentation and permitting workflow.

Required profile

• 10+ years of architectural experience, primarily residential.
• Proven track record leading projects from concept through California permitting.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of wood‑frame construction, zoning, planning and building codes in California.
• Ability to work independently with strong judgment and organization.

Required skills

• Expert proficiency in Revit.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
• Command of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
