Specialty Lines Marine Senior Underwriter

About the role

The Senior Underwriter will drive growth by underwriting Marine Cargo, Marine Liability and Contractors Equipment products, issuing quotes and policies while ensuring compliance. This role focuses on large accounts and building strong relationships with clients and brokers.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, prioritize and select submissions for underwriting.
• Deliver strategic account reviews and prepare associated documentation.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines and support profit‑center initiatives.
• Develop and maintain broker relationships and collaborate with distribution teams to target business opportunities.
• Structure deals, negotiate contract terms, and represent AIG at client and broker functions.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in marine cargo, contractors equipment or marine liability underwriting.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical, critical thinking and decision‑making abilities.
• Effective communicator able to work in a dynamic, ambiguous environment.
• Financial acumen with a focus on profitable business writing.

Required skills

• Understanding of marine insurance risks, loss trends and ratemaking.
• Experience evaluating complex risk submissions and structuring deals.
