Technical Solution Architect – SAP ABAP (S/4HANA)

About the role

The Technical Solution Architect (ABAP) will design and oversee SAP technical solutions, focusing on ABAP development within S/4HANA and ECC environments. Acting as a bridge between business requirements, functional design and technical implementation, the role ensures scalable, efficient and high‑quality SAP solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.

Key responsibilities

• Define, design, and govern SAP ABAP technical architecture in line with project and enterprise requirements.
• Provide guidance on ABAP development standards, performance optimisation and best practices in S/4HANA.
• Lead technical design sessions and translate functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Evaluate existing custom developments and recommend remediation, simplification or optimisation.
• Oversee and review developments such as RICEF objects, CDS Views, OData services, enhancements and interfaces.
• Collaborate with functional, integration and BASIS teams to ensure end‑to‑end technical integrity.
• Provide thought leadership on ABAP modernisation, including HANA‑optimised code, RAP and Fiori enablement.
• Ensure compliance with security, data‑privacy and enterprise‑architecture guidelines.
• Mentor ABAP developers and build technical capability within the team.
• Support project planning, estimation and delivery in SAP transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• 8+ years of SAP ABAP development experience, with at least 3 years in a technical architect or lead role.
• Strong expertise in ABAP Objects, CDS Views, OData services, AMDP, enhancements, BADIs and performance tuning.
• Hands‑on experience with SAP S/4HANA conversions, greenfield implementations and system integrations.
• Knowledge of SAP BTP, Fiori, RAP model and modern ABAP programming practices.
• Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager, ChaRM and ALM tools.
• Relevant SAP ABAP on HANA or SAP S/4HANA Development certification is a strong plus.
