Buyer III - Procurement Sourcing Buyer

About the role

Johnson Controls is hiring a Buyer III (Procurement Sourcing Buyer) who owns advanced purchasing activities, mainly direct materials categories and some indirect spend, within an assigned Product Business Unit. The role works closely with the corporate Category Management team to evaluate sources, set pricing and performance requirements, and build supplier relationships on ethical grounds.

Key responsibilities

• Support R&D, Product Management, Plant Operations and Distribution Centers, and run Make/Buy analyses, competitive bids and engineering change reviews
• Develop and lead sourcing strategies and implement them at plants, distribution centers and offices, managing RFQs, change management, contract negotiations and disputes
• Lead sourcing for new product introduction, including source selection, supplier engagement, LTA pricing and cost optimization
• Negotiate contracts, audit compliance, resolve supplier delivery and quality issues, and track supplier performance and scorecards
• Negotiate payment terms and enroll suppliers in supply chain financing programs, and optimize VMI programs to improve working capital
• Analyze purchase price variance, lead standard cost setting, and track Wave and project initiatives
• Process contracts within delegation of authority, expedite critical deliveries, and assist in systems training and catalog maintenance

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree with at least 6-8 years of procurement experience, including strategy development, contract negotiation and commodity management; MBA desired
• Commercial awareness, strong negotiating and influencing skills, and solid project management abilities
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities
• Travel up to 10%

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite
• SAP used daily; familiarity with SAP desired
• Knowledge of contract terms and conditions
