Director of Mexico Northern Border Customs Operations

About the role

The Director of Mexico Northern Border Customs Operations leads day‑to‑day customs activities across the northern Mexican border, based in Nuevo Laredo. The role designs operational plans, collaborates with warehousing and account teams, and drives growth and efficiency at high‑volume ports of entry.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and optimise daily customs clearance processes at all northern border points, with primary focus on Nuevo Laredo.
• Coordinate with warehouse leadership to ensure seamless communication between warehousing and customs functions.
• Monitor operational systems, cross‑border workflows and brokerage performance, implementing continuous‑improvement solutions.
• Manage customer onboarding, support and retention for cross‑border logistics, ensuring transparency and reliability.
• Create and enforce operational policies, SOPs and compliance controls to reduce dwell times and increase efficiency.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with customers, carriers, customs partners, Mexican customs authorities (ANAM/SAT) and port officials.
• Analyse key metrics, compliance KPIs and dashboards to evaluate employee and vendor performance and conduct performance reviews.

Required profile

• Bilingual conversational and professional fluency in English and Spanish.
• Proven leadership and team‑management experience in fast‑paced operational environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
• Ability to manage operational finances, departmental budgets and cost‑allocation strategies.
• Certified Customs Broker with deep knowledge of Mexican customs law (Ley Aduanera), US‑Mexico cross‑border regulations and international trade compliance.
