Lightning Developer

About the role

Bitrefill is looking for a Lightning Developer to own and evolve its Bitcoin and Lightning payment infrastructure. You will work on a fully remote, globally distributed team that serves millions of customers in over 180 countries.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Lightning Network and Bitcoin payment stack, handling upgrades, fixes, and major enhancements.
• Implement and operate Lightning implementations (LND, CLN, etc.), manage payment channels and liquidity.
• Analyze payment flows, conduct forensic investigations after incidents, and build monitoring and policy frameworks.
• Strengthen crypto security, including key management and HSM integration.
• Collaborate with finance to ensure accurate crypto transaction accounting.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging Bitcoin and Lightning technologies.
• Deploy new payment protocols such as PayJoin and nostr‑based flows.
• Contribute to internal libraries, open‑source tooling, and work closely with product and design teams.

Required profile

• Several years of professional software development experience with a proven record of shipping production code.
• Deep understanding of the Lightning Network protocol and Bitcoin fundamentals.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one Lightning implementation (LND, CLN, Eclair, or LDK).
• Self‑driven attitude, spotting opportunities and advancing them without waiting for a roadmap.
• Regular use of AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
