Senior Middleware Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Middleware Engineer to own the design, deployment, performance and reliability of our enterprise messaging platforms. You will act as the technical authority for RabbitMQ, Redis and Azure Service Bus, ensuring scalable and observable integration across mission‑critical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, deploy and operate RabbitMQ, Redis and Azure Service Bus in development, staging and production environments.
• Design event‑driven integration patterns such as pub/sub, competing consumers, dead‑letter handling, saga/choreography and request‑reply.
• Lead performance tuning of brokers, cluster topology, eviction policies and namespace partitioning.
• Define standards for message schema design, versioning and serialization (JSON, Avro, Protobuf).
• Implement high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions, including mirrored/quorum queues, Redis Cluster/Sentinel and Azure Service Bus geo‑redundancy.
• Establish end‑to‑end observability with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana and alerting for queue depth, consumer lag and error rates.
• Drive Infrastructure‑as‑Code provisioning using Terraform, Bicep or Ansible and integrate middleware into CI/CD pipelines.
• Own middleware security (TLS, RBAC/ACL, Managed Identity) and manage secrets.
• Lead incident response for severity‑1 outages, produce post‑mortems and remediation plans.
• Mentor junior engineers and produce architecture decision records, runbooks and operational documentation.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with deep expertise in enterprise messaging and event‑driven architectures.
• Proven experience designing, operating and scaling RabbitMQ, Redis and Azure Service Bus.
• Strong background in performance engineering, high‑availability design and disaster‑recovery.
• Hands‑on experience with observability tooling and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
• Ability to lead incident response and mentor engineering teams.
